Photographer Barbara Bickford will speak about her experiences in Southeast Asia. She spent a large part of her time in Cambodia, first as a teacher of English at the Royal University of Phnom Penh and later on as a passionate photographer. The culture and way of life, such as living in compounds with Cambodian families, gave her an opportunity to get to know and understand the country. Looking beyond the heat, the traffic, the strange smells and not always friendly locals, she discovered a complicated people, ready to take their place in the world. This lecture is for alumni and members and will be presented in conjunction with an exhibition of Barbara Bickford's photographs beginning on April 4th at 77 Amherst St. Manchester, NH.
