Opening Reception: May 13, 5-7pm. This event is free and open to the public.
NHIA is pleased to announce the grand reopening of their remodeled Sharon Arts Center Gallery in Peterborough, NH. A reception will be held May 13, 2016, 4-7pm, 30 Grove St, Peterborough, NH to celebrate the remodel that will enhance this deeply treasured community asset.
Completed in early May by local architect Dennis Mires and builder Hutter Construction, the new gallery features a highly professional space with new walls and floors, better flow and museum quality lighting. The reopening reception on May 13th features an exhibition curated by The Glass Museum titled Contemporary Works In, On, and Around Music. This exhibit highlights artists who have supplied their work as backdrops for musical performances, photographers, videographers, and other visual artists as part of The Thing in the Spring, a nationally recognized series of concerts and art events in Peterborough, NH. Artists include: Shaina Gates, Anna Von Mertens, Rachelle Beaudoin, Paul Flaherty, Luke Ramsey, Elisabeth Fuchsia Parker, Mary Goldthwaite-Gagne.
The reception will also host American bassist and singer, Nat Baldwin. After studying avant-garde jazz and improvisation with jazz legend Anthony Braxton, Baldwin started writing songs featuring double bass and vocals. In 2005 he joined Dirty Projectors. In addition to his work with Dirty Projectors, he has performed on Grizzly Bear's Shields, Vampire Weekend's Contra, and Department of Eagles' In Ear Park. In between touring and recording with Dirty Projectors, Nat made time to record his 2011 album People Changes, an album that led Pitchfork to say "…whether Baldwin is singing with his throat or his bow, there's a thrilling felling of freedom to it all."
In addition, NHIA will host a Graduate Programs Social that will provide NHIA’s prospective Master of Fine Arts, Master of Arts in Art Education, and Master of Arts in Teaching candidates the opportunity to meet faculty, explore the new exhibition space which will be used for their residency work, and meet graduate students who are currently part of NHIA’s Masters programs.
