New Hampshire Institute of Art Celebrates Largest Graduating Class Ever

Distinguished Art Educator Dr. Judith Simpson to Give Commencement Address

New Hampshire Institute of Art (NHIA) is pleased to announce that it will confer degrees upon 120 undergraduate and graduate students at this year’s commencement ceremony at the Palace Theatre on May 22, 2016. This is the largest graduating class in NHIA’s history. Dr. Judith Simpson, Associate Professor Emeritus and former Director of the School of Visual Arts at Boston University, will be NHIA’s 2016 commencement speaker. Fine Arts graduate, Jessica Allard, will be acknowledging the Class of 2016.

Dr. Judith Simpson has a wealth of experience artistically and as an educator. Simpson has been recognized as both the Massachusetts Higher Education Art Educator of the year, as well as the Eastern Region Higher Education Art Educator of the year by the National Art Education Association. She’s authored numerous articles and is the primary author of the classic work Creating Meaning Through Art: Teacher as Choice Maker. She has conducted curriculum, pedagogy and assessment workshops in various school districts throughout New England and has consulted to districts nationally. She is also a practicing painter.

“I am honored to deliver NHIA’s commencement address, and to share my insights and experience with the next generation of creative professionals,” said Dr. Judith Simpson, Associate Professor Emeritus of Art at Boston University. “As an art student, art educator, and practitioner I understand how valuable art is to our culture and how important obtaining an art degree is.”

“We’re very grateful to have Dr. Judith Simpson as NHIA’s 2016 Commencement Speaker,” said NHIA President Kent Devereaux. “Simpson is a distinguished educator and high-energy leader. She is the perfect candidate to speak to NHIA’s graduating class as they begin the next chapter in their lives.”

Commencement at NHIA is a weekend-long celebration that includes the Annual Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) Student Exhibition opening reception on May 21, 2016 at 6 p.m. This exhibition prominently features art by the 2016 BFA graduating class, displayed in various galleries, studios, hallways, and classrooms throughout NHIA’s downtown Manchester campus. Over 1,000 works of art will be on display with the majority of them available for sale. All earnings from the sale of artwork goes directly to the artist.

Tickets are $25.00 and support scholarships for talented and deserving students.
