New Hampshire Institute of Art (NHIA) is proud to support the high school students and coordinating teachers who will participate in Poetry Out Loud during the 2015-16 school year. The accredited, non-profit undergraduate and graduate college just announced that it will offer significant scholarships to both Poetry Out Loud teachers and their competition-winning students.

“NHIA initially established the Poetry Out Loud Scholarship in 2014-2015 as a way to celebrate New Hampshire high school students who appreciate poetry and creative writing and who aren’t afraid to stand in front of their communities to convey the power of creative imagery,” said Bob Gielow, Vice President of Enrollment Services at NHIA. “We were so impressed by their ability to communicate artistic messages last year, that we have decided to extend this opportunity to all other state winners and runners-up. As a way to honor the teachers who help these students achieve their artistic goals, we will also offer Master of Fine Arts scholarship opportunities to those who administer Poetry Out Loud in their schools.”

For students and teachers who participate in the 2016 Poetry Out Loud competition, NHIA will offer the following:

  • $10,000 annual and renewable scholarships to each of New Hampshire high school winners and runners-up to enroll in NHIA’s Bachelor of Fine Art program;
  • One-half tuition annual and renewable scholarships to each of 106 state/territory winners and runners-up to enroll in NHIA’s Bachelor of Fine Art program;
  • $5,000 annual and renewable scholarships to all high school coordinating Poetry Out Loud teachers to enroll in NHIA’s low-residency Master of Fine Arts programs (Creative Writing, Writing for Stage and Screen, Visual Arts, Photography).

Scholarship recipients may select from any of NHIA’s degree programs. Enrolling students may qualify to receive need-based financial aid in addition to these Poetry Out Loud awards.

NHIA is honored to invite the bright, articulate and creative individuals who excel at Poetry Out Loud to join our community of artists and writers!

Poetry Out Loud is a national recitation contest, created by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation.  Poetry Out Loud is administered in partnership with the State Arts Agencies of all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
