Financial aid programs administered by the New Hampshire Institute of Art come from federal, state, and institutional sources. The three types of aid, gift, loan, and work are combined to create an offer of assistance referred to as a financial aid package.
Most Institute students will borrow a total of $19,000 in federal student loans over their four years ($3,500 in the freshman year, $4,500 in the sophomore year, and $5,500 both in the junior and senior years).
Federal Pell Grants are designed to assist students who demonstrate exceptional financial need. The awards range from $400 to $4,050. This award does not have to be paid back.
Academic Competitiveness Grants (ACG): are awarded to Pell eligible students who h ave completed a rigorous high school program of study and are enrolled full time. This award does not have to be paid back.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG) are available to students who demonstrate exceptional financial need. This is federal money that the New Hampshire Institute of Art allocates to students who demonstrate exceptional need and file the FAFSA by May 1st. This award does not have to be paid back.
Federal College Work Study provides part-time employment opportunities on and off campus to eligible students based on the results of the FAFSA. The program is designed for student employment arranged around scheduled classes.
Federal Stafford Loans are normally included in your financial aid package if you are enrolled at least half time. This is a low interest loan with a long-term repayment plan.
FEDERAL PLUS Loans (Parent loans) are credit-based loans available to parents to help meet the educational costs of dependent children enrolled at least half time.
NHIA Grants and Scholarships
Founders Scholarship: Awarded to incoming students with an outstanding Admission application. Fuller Merit Scholarship: Awarded to students with an outstanding portfolio review. Gakidis Scholarship: Awarded to current enrolled, nontraditional students. Paul and Anne Harvey Scholarship: Awarded to nominated students who have participated in the end of the year student reviews. John Hubenthal Scholarship: Awarded to a nominated student who is entering their junior or senior year. NHIA Housing Grant: Awarded to students who will reside on campus and who have demonstrated financial need per the financial aid application. NHIA Need-Based Grant: Awarded to students who demonstrate financial need per the financial aid application. NHIA Scholastic Art Award Scholarship: Awarded to freshmen with a superior portfolio during the New Hampshire Scholastic Art Awards competition. Presidential Scholarship: Awarded to traditional students with a superior portfolio review and an outstanding high school grade point average. Transfer Scholarship: Awarded to students who are transferring a minimum of twenty-four college credits into the BFA program at NHIA.
