Teaching Philosophy
Learning whilst enjoying what we do is a great way to remember methods and grow as a worker, artist, designer... By learning through repetition of a given skill we automate it in our mind and therefore can pick it up at any time and use it for perfection. Web Development is essentially the succession of several skills learnt through repetition using evolving programming and scripting languages as well as visual programs enabling a motivated person to bring all his/her components together.
In the case of Artists at the New Hampshire Institute of Art, the Web Development Skills that they will learn will be comprised of HTML editing as well as simple scripting in order to bring together the graphical Interface of their design into a website that they will construct and manage on their own. Eventually, the skills they will learn will enable them to integrate their website with Social Networks and other Web 2.0 Applications.
Erwan De Beckers first studied Electronics in France and England as well as Computer Science and Interactive Multimedia Systems. He worked as a Web Developer in the UK for 4 years, moved to the US and settled in New Hampshire in 2004. Since, he has worked for Yankee Publishing, Inc. Developing on YankeeMagazine.com and Almanac.com, the Old Farmer’s Almanac Website. He now works as an IT Specialist at the New Hampshire Institute of Art and the owner of a small Web Design Business Bateau Blanc Design, LLC. He also teaches Basic Web Development for the Continuing Education Department.
