11/23/2009

MANCHESTER, NH - The New Hampshire Institute of Art will be holding a grand opening reception to celebrate the completion of the "green" renovation and addition to the historic, 88 Lowell Street building. Governor John Lynch is scheduled to speak at the event on December 9, 2009 at 5:30 pm, 88 Lowell Street, Manchester. Governor Lynch, Mayor Frank Guinta, city officials, Institute alumni and special guests of the Institute are invited to attend the event.

The evening is scheduled to include Institute President, Roger Williams, speaking about the importance of the new building in relation to the growth of the student population, Architect, Dennis Mires, will speak about the alternative energies that will reduce the Institute's carbon footprint before Governor Lynch gives the dedication to formally open the building to the public.

Guests are invited to enjoy fine wine and delicious hors d'oeuvres. Guided tours will be given to introduce guests to the building and the green energies incorporated into the structure. The evening will also include the unveiling of a special mural designed by Institute students, showing the environmentally friendly qualities of the new building in a creative and aesthetically pleasing way.

The construction of 88 Lowell Street included an historic renovation to the original building, Manchester's first high school, and development of the 6-story addition, which rests behind the original structure. The Institute has incorporated alternate energies into both buildings to ensure an environmentally friendly status. The "green" energies used for the building make it the first "green" mixed-use building on a college campus in the state of New Hampshire. Green features include photovoltaic collection systems, geothermal heating and cooling, rainwater collection and a green roof, all in an effort to reduce the Institute's carbon footprint.
