Teaching Philosophy
I teach writing to the individual, to the student’s potential for personal growth. I teach that every experience—every poem read, every work of art observed—finds its rightful place in our unique humanness, which necessitates these notions: If we don’t tell our stories, who will? If our personal responses to the world go unexplored, unrecorded, our collective experience is diminished. Art nurtures and sustains only if we apply our selves to the process. This is the task, this is the joy.
