Teaching Philosophy
Stuart Ober teaches Oil Painting at the New Hampshire Institute of Art as a member of the adjunct faculty. He has 16 years of teaching experience at the Institute, and believes the teacher-student relationship to be a doorway to growth and learning for all involved in the process. While Mathematics major at Tufts University in Boston, he experienced a rebirth of interest in art in his senior year, leaving Tufts in 1970 with a B.A. in Math and an obsession with oil paint that continues to this day. Since the early 90’s he has exhibited at Gallery NAGA in Boston. Since 2003 he has lived in Elliot, Maine. He is a representational painter, and he describes his work as dealing with everyday life, and objects, in a way that searches for an intersection with the sometimes uneasy world of emotion. His favorite pigment is cadmium yellow, but he also cares deeply for alizarin crimson.
