The Interdisciplinary Arts course of study provides an opportunity for select students to engage in a range of introductory, intermediate, and advanced courses from two studio concentrations. By embracing the choice and synthesis of two distinct disciplines, students gain competencies that can be applied separately or combined in a multimedia genre.

In order to facilitate achievement of a strong, visually thematic body of work, students seeking to pursue Interdisciplinary Arts are required to meet criteria for acceptance by the end of their sophomore year. Further, all Interdisciplinary students must take responsibility to adhere to the specific course and material parameters established by the area of concentration.

Interdisciplinary Criteria
Entering students who have an interest in Interdisciplinary Arts may indicate this during the admissions application process. Students need to communicate clearly to their assigned advisors their interest in seeking the Interdisciplinary studies track. Full confirmation of acceptance to pursue Interdisciplinary Arts is not made until the conclusion of the sophomore year. The following requirements and criteria need to be met for confirmation:
  • Declaration of an initial single program of study at the end of freshman year.
  • A written application during the second semester of sophomore year defining the student’s goals and objectives. A copy of the application must be presented at the annual, end-of-year Student Reviews.
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • A portfolio review and interview with the student’s advisor and applicable program chairpersons with written supportive recommendation.
  • The initial area of concentration chosen at the end of the freshman year remains as one of the two areas of interdisciplinary art activity.
Given the individualized design of Interdisciplinary Art study, the selection and sequence of specific course work will be defined and monitored by the student’s advisor and relevant program chairpersons.
