In an era of intense change, the Institute’s Painting curriculum fosters challenging creative learning experience that draws on the past and engages the future. The nourishing instructional environment provides demonstrations, lectures, critiques, and an ongoing dialogue with a diverse range of faculty. The first part of a student’s journey emphasizes the study of traditional, technical, and formal skill building in the area of drawing and painting. The role of critical dialogue is introduced as a student seeks to uncover and understand his or her passion and potential career paths.
The Digital Fine Art Track begins with this same formal practical and conceptual training, and then students are given the opportunity to engage the world of art using digital tools as their medium. Digital Fine Art integrates the knowledge of painting, collage, and mixed media with contemporary-based methods of production.
The conclusion of the painting journey will see the negotiation of more advanced and complex processes and concepts. The senior year experience is designed to culminate in the student’s achievement of an expressive and authoritative voice, reflected in the production of a solid body of thematic work.
