The Design Department at NHIA is a unique place that embraces both digital and analog technologies – at the same time we are using Cintiq tablets to develop digital work, we are pushing students to learn letterpress and incorporate hand-drawn type, skills that compliment each other and make our students better designers. Our design department is led by faculty who are practicing designers who immerse students in the industry through our Design NH agency, where students run an in-house agency for real-world clients, and the internship experience where students work for companies like Segway, Dyn, and Disney.
Each of our programs are flexible, career-focused and innovative. With more electives, a focus on professional practice, a broad education including liberal arts and sciences, and a partnership with UNH Manchester, NHIA provide artists, writers and designers the freedom to explore within and beyond their major, to think and make in innovative ways, and to be in tune with the professional demands of both current and future careers in art and design. This is education tailored to your goals!

Catalyst - An NHIA News Magazine
“I decided to go to art school because I’ve been a creative my whole life and I’m incredibly passionate about my future in the arts wherever that will take me. I chose NHIA because here I’m treated like a real artist. The feedback I’ve received on my entrance portfolio was incredible and inspiring, I couldn’t see myself going anywhere else. And I wanted to major in design here because I love the feeling I get when creating logos or layouts for a project. I feel like I’m putting together a big puzzle and I’m always excited to see it finished.”
