This retreat offers art teachers from around the country the opportunity to learn advanced techniques, try new mediums, and discover different approaches. Choose from an exciting array of workshops for your morning and afternoon studio sessions. You’ll work closely with NHIA’s faculty of accomplished practicing artists and instructors, receiving individualized mentorship as you work towards unlocking your deeper creative potential. Evenings will offer additional studio time, free time, and optional activities including professional art practice workshops, educator-to-educator discussions, and a personalized visit to the Currier Museum of Art. You’ll be immersed in a community of passionate art educators from around the country, exchanging strategies and collaborating on new approaches to teaching.

This summer we will offer two retreats; one on each of NHIA’s campuses, each with unique facilities and studio session offerings.
Manchester Campus

Workshops include 16 hours each of instruction and studio time, 32 hours total, which can be used for professional development requirements. You will receive a Certificate of Completion, which is recognized by the New Hampshire State Department of Education. Many other states and programs also recognize this Certificate for professional development.

The cost of the basic program is $459, which includes tuition, materials, and most meals. On-campus housing is available at an additional charge. Single rooms are available for $275/wk. Double rooms are available for $225/wk. Travel expenses and arrangements are left to the individual participant.

You can earn 1.5 graduate credits through the Art Educators Summer Retreat. Working with NHIA Graduate Faculty, structured coursework related to your AESR workshops is completed both prior to and after the Retreat. The cost is $800. The program price includes continental breakfast, lunch and some dinners. Vegetarian and gluten free selections will be offered at each meal. Participants with specific meal/food requirements must make their own accommodations.

For those traveling to NHIA from out-of-state, room accommodations are available at an additional charge. Participants will be living in NHIA’s undergraduate residence halls. Singles and doubles are available. NHIA will make room assignments on a first come, first served basis and will make every effort to accommodate each student’s first choice. A bed, dresser and desk are provided. Participants should plan to bring their own linens. Common areas include a study, kitchen, laundry room and lounge with TVs and pool table. If you are interested in on-campus housing, fill out a housing form and submit it with your registration form.

Basic supplies for all AESR courses will be provided. The faculty may recommend some additional materials for specific workshops. Recommended material lists will be sent to you at least one month prior to the retreat.
