Ceramics Major at the New Hampshire Institute of Art

Ceramics

In Ceramics, you'll learn about more than materials. You'll learn that ceramics is both functional and artistic, that you can print on it, sculpt it, and paint on it. With faculty who know you by name, know your art, and know your story, you'll advance as an artist and become a lifelong member of the NHIA community.

As a Ceramics student at the New Hampshire Institute of Art, you’ll learn to manipulate clay both on and off the wheel, mix glazes, and design, build and fire kilns. Our program is designed to give you a thorough grounding in every aspect of ceramics studio operations as you work to develop your own unique artistic voice.

Our Ceramics department is one of the largest in the region with a faculty of national and internationally-recognized artists deeply invested in the success of every student. Find inspiration browsing our museum-quality ceramics collection or take part in a community kiln building. Whether your passion is for functional or sculptural work, or something totally new and unexpected, we’ll provide you with the resources you need to explore your passion and pursue your artistic and personal goals.

Each of our programs are flexible, career-focused and innovative. With more electives, a focus on professional practice and a broad education including liberal arts and sciences, NHIA provide artists, writers and designers the freedom to explore within and beyond their major, to think and make in innovative ways, and to be in tune with the professional demands of both current and future careers in art and design. This is education tailored to your goals!
